INVITATION FOR ENTRIES FOR OSCAR AWARD CONSIDERATION

The International Feature Film Selection Committee (Nepal) would like to kindly notify that we will soon commence the process of selecting a film for submission to the Academy Awards (Oscars) in the category of "International Feature Film Award." The screening process is scheduled to begin on 1st September 2024. We encourage all eligible films that meet the following criteria to submit their entries for consideration before 1st September 2024 to the secretariat of Nepal Selection Committee at the address mentioned below .


Instructions on How to Submit a Film for Consideration:

  1. Submission Guidelines:

    • All films seeking eligibility must receive a rating and certification from the Central Board of Film Censors, Government of Nepal.
    • Eligible films must have been released in local theaters within the specified timeframe set by the Awards. (For the 97th Academy Awards, the release date range is from no earlier than November 1, 2023, and no later than September 30, 2024).
    • Films must be screened for the required duration as stipulated for the award. For instance, a minimum of seven consecutive days in a commercial motion picture theater is necessary for eligibility for the Academy Awards.
    • Films distributed through non-theatrical means, such as broadcast and cable television, DVD distribution, inflight airline entertainment, and internet transmission, may not qualify for selection.

  2. Technical Specifications:

    • If selected, the film must meet the technical requirements of the Awards. For the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the following criteria must be met:
      • Video must be available in 35mm or 70mm film or in a 24- or 48-frame progressive scan Digital Cinema Package with a minimum projector resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixels.
      • Audio must be available in 5.1 or 7.1 channels.

  3. Other Requirements:

    • At least one Director, Writer, or Producer of the film has to be a Nepalese.
    • The film should have Nepalese elements.
    • The recording of the original dialogue track as well as the completed picture must be predominantly (more than 50%) in a language or languages other than English. Accurate, legible English language subtitles are required.

  4. Submission Process:

    • Films must be submitted through the official submission secretariat office located in Chabahil Kathmandu, Nepal [Contact details below].
    • Complete the online submission form and provide all required materials as listed below:
      • Completed submission forms (contact secretariat)
      • Digital upload of the film for streaming purposes
      • [For Internal Use Only] A secure and password-protected link to the film. This is required to test non-English dialogue.
      • Full cast and credits list
      • Director’s biography and photograph
      • A designated key frame for streaming display artwork
      • A poster from the film’s theatrical release, for archival purposes
      • Proof of the film’s qualifying theatrical release, including but not limited to advertising
